A year of milestones help to deliver the future for Division 6

Sunshine Coast Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson views the last 12 months as a period dedicated to investing, improving and upgrading our communities to cater for the needs of residents across the division.

Cr Dickson said tackling congestion and improving traffic flow to accommodate current and future population growth remained a key priority, heading into a new financial year.

“Construction of more than $20 million worth of duplication works of Sippy Downs Dr has reached an important milestone, moving into its fourth and final stage,” Cr Dickson said.

“As well as improving traffic flow, the upgrade will help cater for forecast traffic volumes, which is essential given the growth we’re continuing to see in Sippy Downs and nearby areas.

“In the past 12 months, we’ve installed new street lighting on Stringybark Road which has improved safety for a number of residents using this key link between Buderim and the University, particularly during the evenings.

“This was a project that has been warmly welcomed by locals.”

Cr Dickson said maintaining, renewing and improving the quality of open space, aging park infrastructure and sporting facilities were among the many highlights in Division 6 during the 2017/2018 financial year.

“We invested $380,000 into the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex in Buderim to improve the road access, which is proving to be of huge benefit to members and visitors,” he said.

“The sports complex is home to several sports and community clubs and is one of the Coast's best used facilities.

“I am so proud to see what a difference this project has made for local clubs.

“Upgrade and renewal works were also undertaken at Quota Hideaway Park Playground at Mountain Creek, Brightwater Community Park Playground, Eaton Park at Sippy Downs, Buderim Dog Park and Glenfields Neighbourhood Park.

“These local parks are at the heart of our communities and are very much loved by our families, so it was important to bring some of our older parks up to scratch.

“Some very significant projects have been delivered over the past year and I’m looking forward to announcing more projects to be delivered for Division 6 in 2018/19.”

Sunshine Coast Council will deliver its 2018/19 budget on June 21.
