🔥 Did you see the smoke over at Sippy Downs and Palmview over the weekend? Well that was part of the Lower Mooloolah River Environment Reserve burn on Saturday.

The burn was planned and undertaken by council’s Fire Management team, with resource assistance from the Ilkley and Beerwah Rural fire brigades.

A welcome to country and a smoking ceremony was provided by local Kabi Kabi women, Bridget Jones.

Council also had 3x Kabi Kabi people assist on country with the fire operations as a part of their capacity building and training (Kerry Jones, Kerry Jones Jackson and Rodney Jones).

The burn had multiple purposes:

* Re-open kangaroo grazing areas

* Upstream flood mitigation (Sippy Downs)

* Initiate a site burn regime and ecological processes for regular burning to maintain a grassy landscape in the absence of grazing

Warm regards,
