Council increases road safety for Brightwater students

The students of Brightwater State School now have a safer and easier walk to school, following the completion of two zebra pedestrian crossings.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the two additional crossings at Brightwater will significantly improve road safety in the area, particularly for members of the Buderim Lions Walking School Bus Program.

“These upgrades will improve visibility and safety conditions for pedestrians, school traffic and the whole Brightwater community,” Cr Dickson said.

“The crossings were installed this week on the southern approach to the Brightwater Boulevard and Attenuata Drive roundabout and also on the southern approach to the Hibbertia Street and Attenuata Drive.

“The newly installed zebra crossings give priority to pedestrians when crossing the road at these two particular locations.

“Motorists are requested to adhere to the normal road rules by giving way to pedestrians on the crossings, however pedestrians should still exercise caution when approaching the zebra crossing.

“I am delighted that funds have been allocated to Division 6, actively assisting the Buderim Lions Walking School Bus Program, which offers adult supervision to groups of children walking to Brightwater State School.

“The program provides road safety education, encourages active transport and reduces congestion around school zones.

“Council has also recently installed line marking at the Dianella Drive bus zone, which will discourage illegal parking, motorists in the area are asked to keep the bus zone clear at all times.

“As well as the community of Brightwater and the members of the Buderim Lions Walking School Bus Program, I am really pleased to see these projects completed, as encouraging children to walk to school safely has obvious health benefits.”

School zones operate between 7-9am and 2-4pm.
