The Buderim Cricket Club’s new state-of-the-art cricket oval, constructed by council, was officially opened today at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Sports Precinct.
The $270,000 facility includes a five-pitch turf wicket block with irrigation and drainage, top dressed and renovated playing field, state level field fencing and sightscreens, storage shed and spectator shade awnings.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the facility would provide an opportunity to challenge and stretch our region’s very best players, as well as continuing to attract national and international sporting teams for competitions and training camps.
“This facility will provide Australian cricket with a state-of-the-art training facility and high performance hub,” Cr Dickson said.
“It also allows the Sunshine Coast to build on its growing reputation as a place to visit for pre-season training camps from sports teams around Australia and the world.”
In addition to the facility catering for the cricket club, university and community it will also service multiple sports which provides further social and economic benefits for our region.
“We are pleased to announce a partnership with the Chancellor State College and Chancellor Park Soccer Club who will use the grounds to cater for their sporting activities,” Cr Dickson said.
“Council places a high importance on all our sporting teams and it’s vital we invest into our facilities for them, particularly if we want to continue to attract major events and tourism to the region.”
The project was jointly funded by council, Queensland State Government - Get Playing Places and Spaces and Queensland Cricket.
