Turf improves safety at Brightwater

Brightwater residents are in for a change of scenery as Lomandra plants are replaced by turf on roadside verges, in a bid to improve safety and improve aesthetics.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said motorist and pedestrian safety improvements were on the way as the project to remove Lomandras from verges approached completion.

“Removing the Lomandra plants and replacing them with turf has already improved visibility for motorists, accessibility for pedestrians, and reduced the amount of maintenance required, in the two sections that were completed in 2014 and 2015,” Cr Dickson said.

“This is a great outcome for the Brightwater community because along with the safety improvements, there is the added benefit of the verges looking neater.”

“Positive community feedback on the initial work, and support from the Brightwater Community Association, has made it possible to complete this final stage now funds have become available.”

The replacement of the plants with turf along the roadside verges of Brightwater Boulevard and Manatunga Parade is scheduled to begin during May, and will take approximately four days to complete, weather permitting.
