Head to Brightwater parkrun and support the Racism it Stops with me campaign

The community is invited to celebrate cultural diversity at the Brightwater parkrun on Saturday, May 21 to support a regional Racism. It Stops with Me campaign.

On World Day for Cultural Diversity, Cr Christian Dickson will pledge Sunshine Coast Council’s support for the Australian Human Rights Commission’s national anti-racism campaign, Racism. It Stops With Me.

“The Sunshine Coast has a diverse and growing multicultural population with one in every five people born overseas,” Cr Dickson said.

“We want to ensure that all Sunshine Coasters – no matter what their cultural background or circumstances – are treated with respect and are provided the opportunity to be their best.

“This event on the multicultural calendar, will see council partnering with parkrun to take a stand against racism in our community on May 21.”

Cr Dickson said there were five parkrun locations on the Sunshine Coast - Brightwater, Golden Beach, Kawana, Nambour and Town of Seaside - which will see the community come together at 7am on May 21 to celebrate our diversity.

“I will be taking part in the Brightwater event and encourage people to come along and join me,” Cr Dickson said.

“The 2015 Sunshine Coast Social Strategy highlights the value of celebrating and building the region’s cultural communities and ensuring cultural development contributes to social wellbeing, place, and identity.

“Information is available that can help all community members understand what we can all do to foster a resilient, respectful community.”
