Delivering the future in Division 6

Investment into the future of the community is a strong focus for Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson and a clear reflection of Sunshine Coast Council’s 2017/18 $237 million capital works budget aimed at delivering a future  that is healthy, smart and creative.

“It’s important that we balance the needs and expectations of the entire community and allocate funds appropriately to plan for projects into the future – while still delivering the core services,” Cr Dickson said.

“Tackling congestion to accommodate current and future population growth will remain a key priority for Division 6.

“The detailed design of the upgrade to Sippy Downs Drive ($600,000) will move to the next phase, linking our growing Sunshine Coast University and the emerging Sippy Downs Town Centre precinct to the Bruce Highway.

“I’m extremely proud to finally bring home this important and necessary overhaul of the local road network.

“Residents and visitors to the area will be pleased to see an end to the morning and afternoon gridlock that occurs at the entry to Chancellor Park and the Sippy Downs Town Centre precinct.”

Cr Dickson said keeping residents safe and connected was also a key priority for the Division 6 community.

“The Stringybark Road lighting and pathway widening project ($80,000) is very important for the residents in that area,” Cr Dickson said.

“The project will significantly improve safety for local residents by upgrading existing pathway lights at either end of the bridge.

“Maintaining, renewing and improving the quality of open space, aging park infrastructure and sporting facilities remains an ongoing priority for the next 12 months.

“We’ll be investing $380,000 to the Elizabeth Daniels Sport Complex to improve road access, which will be of huge a benefit to members and visitors.

“The sports complex is home to several sports and community clubs and is one of the Coast's best used facilities.

“Uprades and renewals works will be undertaken at Quota Hideaway Park Playground in Mountain Creek ($75,000), Brightwater Community Park Playground ($50,000), Eaton Park in Sippy Downs ($8,000), Buderim Dog Park ($5,000) and Glenfields Neighbourhood Park ($5,000).

“These local parks are at the heart of our communities and are very much loved by our families.”
